Jordan Approves National Plan for Volunteer Year 2026

The Higher Steering Committee for Volunteer Work, chaired by Minister of Youth Dr. Raed Sami Al-Adwan, approved the national plan for celebrating the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026 during a meeting held two days ago.

The meeting was attended by committee members, including Crown Prince Foundation Executive Director Dr. Tamam Manko, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Youth Dr. Mazen Abu Baqar, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture Dr. Nidal Al-Ayasrah, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Social Development Dr. Barq Al-Dhamour, Civil Defense Director Brig. Gen. Nasser Al-Sweilemeen, and representatives of the ministries of Labor; Education and Human Resources Development; the King Abdullah II Fund for Development; as well as experts in volunteer work.

The meeting was also attended by Nada Belhassen, Regional Coordinator for the Arab Region for the International Year of Volunteers, National UN Volunteers Programme Coordinator Nour Al-Hakim, and several ministry directors.

The development comes after the Ministry of Youth was selected as the national focal point for the celebration of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.

Al-Adwan stressed that selecting the Ministry of Youth as the national focal point reflects the prominent position volunteer work holds in Jordan. He said the move is the result of the attention and follow-up of Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II on the volunteerism portfolio in Jordan, particularly the Hussein bin Abdullah II Award for Volunteer Work, the Volunteer Charter, and the programs implemented by the ministry under its institutional and strategic plans.

He added that the step represents an opportunity to highlight Jordan’s experience in volunteer work internationally, strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Volunteers Programme, and exchange expertise and experiences in a way that contributes to developing volunteer programs and initiatives.

Al-Adwan also stressed the importance of integrating the efforts of committee members and relevant national institutions to highlight Jordan’s national efforts in volunteer work at both the local and international levels.

He said the ministry, in cooperation with the Department of Statistics, is working to develop a national volunteerism index that measures the level and motivations of participation in volunteer work in Jordan, providing data to help develop national policies and programs related to volunteerism.

The meeting included a presentation on the International Year of Volunteers by Belhassen, who highlighted the importance of celebrating the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026 as an opportunity to promote a culture of volunteerism and highlight the role of volunteers in serving their communities and supporting sustainable development efforts.

The meeting also included a presentation of the national plan for celebrating the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026. The plan includes a range of activities and events to be implemented by the Ministry of Youth in partnership with various institutions, as well as a summary of national achievements in volunteer work.

Committee members and representatives of participating entities presented the programs and activities planned for implementation during the International Year of Volunteers celebrations.
