The government’s behavior in selecting senior
officials, and the exclusion of potential qualified competitors, would have
political implications reflected in citizens’ loss of confidence in government
policies and entities and would result in increased instability in the absence
of justice and integrity and the prevalence of corruption, according to the
statement.
The Associated and Deliverance Party said it has
recently monitored the government’s disregard of the values of justice,
transparency, and integrity instated in the constitution as well as the laws
and regulations that govern recruitment of the state’s leadership positions,
adding that the Prime Ministry sometimes appoints such positions without any
public advertising or fair and free competition, as required by the
legislation.
While denouncing the irregularities in the
recruitment process, the party demanded the abolition of these invalid
selection and appointment procedures and urged the need to review procedures
pertaining to all appointments that were made during the past two years through
a judicial commission of inquiry. The inquiry, state the press release, should
involve national institutions working in the areas of transparency and human
rights. The party also demanded the elimination of exceptions in legislation
that allow the government to appoint without competition, or the relevant
ministerial committee to bypass contesting candidates and resorting to a single
nomination.
