AMMAN — On Sunday, the spokesperson for the Jordan Electricity Company, Mohammed Al Maharmeh, reported that electricity demand in
the Kingdom surged by 25 percent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, he highlighted that electricity consumption rose by 17 percent on
Sunday compared to Saturday.
According to Al Maharmeh, the increase can be attributed to
the spike in temperatures and the country's exposure to a heatwave. He further
clarified that the current power grid is fully equipped to handle these
heightened situations and reported that there have not been any widespread or
prolonged power outages in Amman, Addustour reported.
He pointed out that the reported cases to emergency response
centers have mostly been individual and fall within the normal range of
occurrence. Additionally, he noted the existence of operational control rooms
both at medium-pressure and low-pressure levels. Moreover, there are
approximately 20 subsidiary operational rooms dedicated to addressing faults
across the four central provinces.
