During the visit, His Royal Highness toured the city’s facilities and was briefed by Eyad Abu Khurma, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Aqaba Digital City, on the project’s components. The development features Jordan’s largest data center, covering nearly 17,000 square meters with an operational capacity of 12 megawatts, ready to accommodate artificial intelligence technologies.
Abu Khurma highlighted that the project was built entirely by Jordanian talent and hosts the first open-access submarine cable landing station in the Kingdom, strengthening Jordan’s position as an independent digital gateway directly connected to global networks.
The project currently includes three submarine cables that enhance Jordan’s role as a key connectivity hub between Asia, Africa, and Europe, with two additional cables under development to be linked to the digital city.
It also houses the first neutral and fastest-growing data exchange center in the region, capable of hosting both public and private cloud services, along with a comprehensive security ecosystem featuring a security operations center and secure access platform. These features position Jordan as a regional destination for hosting sensitive systems for government entities and the financial sector.
Additionally, the city includes training and capacity-building facilities for youth in information technology and cybersecurity, as well as centers dedicated to data, artificial intelligence, game design, and digital content creation.
His Royal Highness was accompanied by Shadi Al-Majali, Chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), and Zaid Al-Baqa’in, Director of the Crown Prince’s Office.
