"Jordan's is more than a strategic partner to America, it's a friend and friends stand by one another in challenging times ... The fact that Jordan is doing this while continuing to show considerable generosity to people who came here fleeing violence and persecution is a reflection of the country's character and big hearts of the Jordanian people," said Blinken.

He highlighted a few topics discussed with His Majesty King Abdullah.

"Here today in Amman, my conversation with His Majesty touched on a range of topics, including the urgent need to work together to meet humanitarian needs in Gaza while ensuring that Palestinian people, not Hamas, benefit from this assistance. We discussed Jordan's essential role as a custodian of the Muslim holy places and the importance of preserving the current status quo in Jerusalem’s holy sites.”

The Secretary commended Jordan's "vital role" during the recent events.

"Jordan's recent contributions to help bring an end to the conflict in Israel, [and] the Kingdom's enduring role as a force of peace in the region which is one of the reasons why our relationship is so strong."

Meanwhile, Blinken stated that the "ceasefire is not an end but the beginning to something to build on."

"This whole trip reflects a final reality: If we want to avoid the return to harrowing violence of recent weeks the countries in this region need to help and support one another in the coming days I will be consulting with Gulf countries and other partners to ensure we all contribute to recovery, stability and reduction of tensions," Blinken concluded.

During his time in Jordan, Blinken also met with Safadi, with both diplomats focusing on bilateral cooperation and “the horizons of a political solution that results in a just and comprehensive peace," a Foreign Ministry statement said.

They also discussed means to bolster bilateral relations.

Safadi commended the support that the US provides to Jordan to face economic challenges and support the Kingdom's development.
