AMMAN — The Anti-Vagrancy Department in the Ministry of Social Development arrested 11 beggars, seven of whom were juveniles, at King Hussein Bridge, according to Al-Ghad News.اضافة اعلان

The ministry said in a statement Sunday that these people were arrested for begging, asking for money from those arriving and leaving at the King Hussein Bridge.

Upon checking the data of the arrested and their families, they were found to be in receipt of monthly salaries from JD450 to JD600, as well as owning common transport vehicles and cars, leading many to suspect the involvement of an organized unit.

The adults were handed over to the security services for the legal requirements to be taken against them, while the juvenile beggars were transferred to the Care and Rehabilitation Center for Juvenile Beggars, according to the juvenile judge’s memorandum so that protection and care services could be provided to them.

The ministry urged citizens to stop giving any money to beggars and those who illegally obtain it by claiming illness or need, and to support the efforts of the ministry and its partners, such as the Greater Amman Municipality in order to stop this phenomenon that harms society and ruins its image.

It called on citizens to report any cases of begging through the following numbers:
