Falcons prepare to take on 2023 Basketball World Cup

AMMAN — The Jordanian Basketball Federation announced on Monday the preparation plan for the national team's participation in the 2023 Basketball World Cup. اضافة اعلان

The plan includes participation in two friendly tournaments, nine domestic, and international training camps, starting June.

In the World Cup draw, which will be hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia, the national team was placed in Group 3 alongside the United States, Greece, and New Zealand.

The preparation of the national team, known as the "Jordan Falcons," for the World Cup includes 23 matches, including games against participating teams in the tournament, according to the preparation plan, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Preparations for the winThe team will begin its preparations for the World Cup, where they will participate for the third time, with a training camp in Greece from starting June 1 which will include a match against the Greek Under-20 team on June 12, 2023.

It's worth noting that the national team will face Greece in their first match in the World Cup.

The World Cup trophy will visit Jordan for two days, starting on June 15, 2023 according to the Jordanian Basketball Federation. The World Cup trophy tour previously visited the Kingdom in 2019.

The national team will play two matches against the Lithuanian Under-20 team in Lithuania on June 17, 2023.

Then, in July, the national team will travel to Canada, where they are scheduled to play five friendly matches.

Afterwards, they will head back to the Kingdom for a domestic training camp before returning to Lithuania for another training camp with three friendly matches against the Lithuanian national team.

The World Cup draw placed Lithuania, the third-ranked team in the world in the 2014 World Cup, in Group 4 alongside Egypt, Mexico, and Montenegro.

The national team will remain in Europe to hold a training camp in Portugal, where they will play three matches against the Czech Republic, Lebanon, and the hosts between July 26, 2023 and July 30, 2023.

The King Abdullah Friendly CupJordan will host the King Abdullah Friendly Cup, with the participation of Portugal, Angola, Mexico, and the national team starting on July 31, 2023.

The "Jordan Falcons" will participate in the Georgia Friendly Cup from August 11, 2023 to August 14, 2023 where they will face the hosts in the first match, then Montenegro, and finally Iran.

In the final preparatory stage for the World Cup, the national team will travel to China from August 18, 2023 to August 21, 2023 where they will play against the South Sudan, Iran, and Venezuela national teams.

This will be the third time Jordan participates in the Basketball World Cup after 2010 and 2019, during which they achieved one victory.
