United took the lead shortly after halftime through Bryan Mbeumo, who fired a superb low shot into the bottom-right corner. Everton equalized in the 83rd minute through Tyrique George, before United substitute Benjamin Šeško appeared to restore the lead with a header in the 88th minute.
However, Everton substitute Ainsley Maitland-Niles produced a stunning strike from outside the box deep into stoppage time to make it 2–2 and rescue a point for David Moyes’ side.
The result leaves United still searching for consistency after opening the season with a defeat to Hull City before beating Ipswich Town 5–2 in their previous match.
