AMMAN — The Board of Directors of Al-Wehdat Club has finalized the identity of the first football team's new manager, selecting Egyptian coach Emad El-Nahas to lead the squad. He succeeds former manager Waseem Al-Bzoor, whose relationship with the club ended by mutual consent following a 0–1 defeat against Ramtha in the third round of the Pro League.

The decision to choose El-Nahas came during a board meeting chaired by Club President Youssef Al-Saqour that lasted late into the night. It followed a comparative review of several Arab and foreign coaching candidates as the club seeks to rectify its stumbling start, having collected just two points out of nine in the league after goalless draws against Al-Faisaly and Al-Salt, and a loss to Ramtha.
According to information obtained by Al Ghad, three primary names were put forward during the selection meeting: Egyptian Emad El-Nahas, Spaniard Juan Carlos Garrido, and Italian Fabio Lopez. The technical and financial profiles of each coach were evaluated before the board voted in favor of El-Nahas.
Reports indicate that Honorary President Imad Al-Damisi leaned toward Spaniard Garrido, followed by Lopez, and expressed readiness to cover the costs of signing either coach along with their technical staff, estimated at around 70,000 JOD.
However, the board vote shifted toward El-Nahas, who secured 6 out of 11 votes alongside President Al-Saqour, compared to 4 opposing votes. The decision-makers cited El-Nahas’s extensive coaching experience, his upcoming availability, and the ability to begin his duties immediately.
El-Nahas Arrives in Amman Tomorrow
Emad El-Nahas is expected to arrive in Amman today, Thursday, to finalize his contract and begin his coaching duties with the team alongside his backroom staff.
According to sources, the new technical staff comprises four members: an assistant coach, a goalkeeping coach, a fitness trainer, and a performance analyst. Al-Damisi will also cover the annual contract expenses for the staff, estimated at approximately 30,000 JOD per year.
El-Nahas’s arrival comes at a time when Al-Wehdat seeks to reorganize its technical affairs rapidly following an unsatisfactory start to the season, taking advantage of the current international break lasting until early October, especially amid fan dissatisfaction over the team's performance under Al-Bzoor.
El-Nahas: From Al Ahly’s Defensive Rock to the Manager's Seat
Born on February 15, 1976, in Maghagha, Minya Governorate, Emad El-Nahas enjoyed a distinguished playing career spanning Egyptian and Saudi pitches before transitioning into management.
He began his playing career with Aswan in 1996, moved to Ismaily in 1998, had a professional stint with Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr, and joined Al Ahly SC in 2004, where he retired in 2009. He also represented the Egyptian national team between 2003 and 2009.
Following his retirement, El-Nahas turned to coaching, starting with Aswan and leading them to promotion to the Egyptian Premier League. He subsequently managed Al-Sharkia, El-Raja, and Tanta before his notable tenure at Arab Contractors (Al Mokawloon Al Arab), whom he coached across multiple spells.
He also managed Al Ittihad Alexandria and Tala'ea El Gaish, and was repeatedly linked with Al Ahly's technical staff before serving as interim head coach in April 2025.
The Al Ahly Experience and Iraqi Stint
Last year, El-Nahas served as interim head coach of Al Ahly, guiding the team to secure the Egyptian Premier League title at the end of the season before moving abroad to manage Iraqi club Al-Zawraa.
Arriving in Baghdad in October 2025, he took over at Al-Zawraa and managed 14 matches in the Iraqi League, recording 8 wins, 5 draws, and 1 loss according to published statistics.
He then returned to Egypt to manage Al Masry SC in April 2026, leading them to victory in the Egyptian League Cup last season. His tenure with the club concluded on September 2 after three league matches that saw Al Masry win against Smouha and Arab Contractors and lose to Pyramids.
