According to the Philippine News Agency, storm alerts have been issued across large parts of the country, with the highest warning level—Category 5—raised over southeastern Luzon, while a Category 3 alert was declared for the capital, Manila, and surrounding areas.

Fung-Wong, locally known as Awan, is expected to make landfall in Aurora province in central Luzon as early as Sunday evening, packing winds of up to 185 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 230 kilometers per hour.

The Civil Aviation Authority reported that more than 300 domestic and international flights have been canceled.

Typhoon Fung-Wong approaches the Philippines just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi swept through the country, killing 204 people and causing widespread destruction before moving on to Vietnam, where it claimed five more lives and devastated coastal regions.
