British Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Secretary Yvette Cooper said that during her visit to Jordan last week, she saw warehouses filled with humanitarian aid still awaiting delivery to Gaza, while families in the Strip continue to suffer from hunger.

In a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) page, Cooper called for the opening of all crossings into Gaza, easing restrictions on aid deliveries, and allowing the UN and NGOs to expand their life-saving efforts, as part of a US-led peace plan.
She added that much of the UK’s aid to Gaza passes through Jordan but is not reaching the Strip due to the continued closure of the aid route from Amman.
In a video posted on X during her visit to one of the aid warehouses in Amman, Cooper explained that Jordan is less than 100 miles from Gaza, and British aid is stored in Jordanian warehouses before being loaded for shipment to the Strip. “The problem is that it is not reaching Gaza,” she said.
She noted that a single warehouse contains enough wheat to feed 700,000 people for a month, yet it remains in storage while families in Gaza face hunger. Cooper described this situation as “wrong and in urgent need of correction.”
The UK Foreign Secretary stressed the need to open all crossings and lift restrictions on aid entry. She noted that aid deliveries have increased since the ceasefire, “but we urgently need to go further and faster.”
Cooper emphasized that speeding up aid deliveries is a core part of the US-led peace plan, which has been approved by Israel and Hamas and supported internationally, including by the UK. “What is now required is implementation,” she said.
She added that she held talks with several ministers and the US-led coordination committee on “urgent steps needed,” stating: “We must get this aid to Gaza without any delay. The people of Gaza cannot wait.”
These remarks come amid a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza under the ongoing Israeli blockade. Cooper called on the international community to take swift action to ensure aid reaches those in need.
During her visit to Jordan, Yvette Cooper also met with His Majesty King Abdullah II and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi.
