U.S. Officials Warn Netanyahu Against Political Self-Destruction in Syria
The U.S. news site Axios reported that senior American officials have criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach in Syria, warning that it could lead to his political self-destruction.اضافة اعلان

According to the report, U.S. officials have expressed growing concern over Israeli airstrikes and operations inside Syrian territory, cautioning that such actions could threaten stability in Syria and undermine ongoing efforts to advance a potential security agreement between Damascus and Tel Aviv.

One U.S. official stated that the United States is sending a “clear” message to Netanyahu to halt operations “that will lead him to political self-destruction,” adding that continued actions “could turn the new Syrian government into an adversary and jeopardize a rare diplomatic opportunity.”

U.S. Support for Syria in Disputes with Israel
Axios noted that Washington’s Middle East strategy includes supporting Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar’ in stabilizing the country and encouraging his engagement in negotiations with Israel. The report highlighted that the Trump administration has taken positions favorable to Damascus on several contentious issues with Tel Aviv in recent months—a stance not taken with any other country in the region.

On Monday, former President Trump reiterated his warning to the Israeli government via a post on Truth Social, urging Israel to avoid actions that could hinder Syria’s political transition. He stressed the importance of maintaining “strong and genuine dialogue” with Syria, noting that “nothing should happen to impede Syria’s path toward becoming a prosperous state.” Trump also suggested that a long and prosperous relationship between Syria and Israel is possible through such dialogue, while praising Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar’ and citing U.S. support for Syria’s reconstruction, including lifting “strong and harsh sanctions” imposed in previous years.

Netanyahu’s Military Approach Raises Concerns
Regarding Israeli incursions into Syria and the massacre in the town of Beit Jan near Damascus, a U.S. official told Axios that “Syrians were extremely angry, and their social structures demanded retaliation because civilians were killed.” Officials noted that the White House had not received prior notice from Israel about the operation, contrary to previous coordination practices. While Israel claims to have informed the Syrian government through “intelligence channels,” U.S. officials said Syria received no warning via official military channels.

A senior U.S. official commented that Syria “does not want problems with Israel; this is not Lebanon,” adding that Netanyahu “sees ghosts everywhere” and follows a “shoot first, ask questions later” policy in Syria. Another official recalled similar statements made within the White House last June after Israeli strikes on Damascus, describing Netanyahu’s behavior as “acting like a madman, bombing everything all the time,” and warning that such conduct could undermine Trump’s efforts.

Israeli Concerns Over U.S.-Syria Rapprochement
Axios also reported that the growing closeness between the U.S. and Syrian presidents is causing concern in Israel, particularly following Al-Shar’’s visit to the White House and prior meetings in Riyadh. Although Israel participates in U.S.-led efforts toward a security agreement with Damascus, it has presented “maximum demands” and approached the matter “with extreme caution.”

U.S. officials said that Netanyahu’s recent actions have negatively affected progress on the security agreement, prompting tense discussions between U.S. special envoy to Syria Tom Barrack and Israeli officials since last Friday, as well as meetings aimed at de-escalating tensions with Damascus.
