Palestinian sources confirmed that local residents managed to control the fire before it could spread to the entire mosque, with damage being limited to the entrance.
The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs warned of a "systematic increase" in attempts to burn mosques in the West Bank during the current month of Ramadan. The Ministry pointed to the arson in Duma and the scrawling of racist slogans on its walls as a step toward desecrating Islamic holy sites during the holy month.
In a statement, the Ministry emphasized that these repeated and escalating attempts to burn mosques are part of a systematic plan by settlers to seize Palestinian land by undermining the security and resilience of Palestinian citizens in the West Bank. It added that the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque to worshippers and those performing I'tikaf during Ramadan is further evidence of this plan.
The Ministry saluted the Palestinian people across all locations for protecting their villages, mosques, and towns despite the ferocity and brutality of the attacks by these extremists.
