On December 18, Abu Samra, 24, had her foot amputated as a result of an Israeli strike that bombed her family’s home in the Nuseirat camp in the central GazaStrip.

According to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, under the account @MuslimLivesMtrs “The war killed the dreams of the distinguished karate player Ngham Abu Samra, who sought to become a professional, win international awards, and represent Palestine and Gaza globally. This dream was shattered when her foot was amputated, and she suffered head injuries after the shelling of her family's home in the Nuseirat camp. Her utmost dream now is to stand again,” Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

In a Ted post in April 2021, written by a freelance journalist in Gaza, Ameera Harouda, Abu Samra established her first club to teach girls karate in Gaza, and started playing the sport because it gave her strength and courage. Despite the limited resources available in Gaza, she received strong support from her family, including her father who enabled her to continue playing.

Since October 7, Israel has killed 23,708 civilians, with over 60,000 wounded, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health
