The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced today, Sunday, that it received a distress report from a cargo ship stating it was attacked by unknown gunmen while sailing approximately 30 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni city of Hodeidah, in one of the Red Sea's most vital maritime corridors.اضافة اعلان

The UKMTO explained that competent authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, without disclosing the ship's identity, nationality, or the nature of the damage it sustained.

It also called on all vessels transiting the area to exercise extreme caution and immediately report any suspicious movements or activities.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Preliminary estimates indicate that investigations are still ongoing to identify the attackers, at a time when the region is also witnessing sporadic activity by pirates and armed groups in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

This incident comes amid ongoing security tensions in the Red Sea, which is considered one of the world's most critical trade lanes. Over the recent period, it has witnessed a series of attacks and assaults on commercial vessels off the Yemeni coast, prompting many shipping companies to alter their routes or enhance security measures aboard their ships.

The UKMTO continues to issue periodic warnings to commercial shipping, urging vessels to increase their level of vigilance and report any potential threats in light of the continuous security risks in the region.
