Despite the strong success of this year’s devices, leaked information suggests that the iPhone 18 will represent a major leap forward and an enticing option for those considering an upgrade, according to a report by PhoneArena.
Below are the five major changes expected to make the iPhone 18 one of Apple’s most advanced and highly anticipated releases:
1. First-Ever Under-Display Face ID
After years of using the notch and later the Dynamic Island, Apple is reportedly working on placing all Face ID components under the screen. By 2027, the company aims to achieve an almost hole-less display.
If the plan succeeds, the iPhone 18 will feature only a tiny cutout for the camera, bringing its design closer to modern Android flagships.
2. Variable Aperture Main Camera
The iPhone 18 is expected to gain one of Apple’s most significant camera upgrades in years: a main lens with a variable aperture.
This feature would give users greater control over the amount of light reaching the sensor, improving low-light performance and delivering higher-quality photos.
While Samsung may opt for a wider fixed aperture in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Apple is heading toward more flexibility for photography enthusiasts.
3. A More Unified Rear Design
The iPhone 17 Pro is moving from titanium to aluminum, but the color difference between the glass back and metal frame remained noticeable.
New leaks suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro will adopt a more harmonious rear design with reduced color mismatch—addressing complaints from users who disliked last year’s look.
4. A20 Chip Built on 2-Nanometer Technology
The iPhone 18 lineup will be the first to use Apple’s A20 chip, manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process—replacing today’s 3nm chips.
This advancement will offer:
Higher performance
Better power efficiency
Reduced heat during heavy use
Overall, it should provide improved battery life and smoother performance.
5. Enhanced AI Experience with Apple Intelligence
After facing criticism for the initial release, Apple is preparing a more stable and refined version of Apple Intelligence, supported by its partnership with Google.
By the time the iPhone 18 launches, most issues are expected to be resolved, with Apple likely reserving some exclusive AI features for the new generation—just as it has done before.
