Study: Nearly 90% of Video Game Developers Use Artificial Intelligence
A survey conducted by Google Cloud revealed that 87% of video game developers use AI agents to simplify and automate tasks, at a time when the industry is focusing on cost reduction following an unprecedented wave of layoffs.اضافة اعلان
According to Reuters, most participants in the survey — published on Monday — stated that AI helps automate tedious and repetitive tasks, allowing developers to focus on creative aspects.
Game developers have turned to AI to deal with industry-wide challenges, such as the significant rise in development costs and prolonged creative cycles, amid high audience expectations and intense competition.
The study, conducted by Google and The Harris Poll, surveyed 615 game developers in the United States, South Korea, Norway, Finland, and Sweden in late June and early July.
The study showed that around 44% of developers use AI agents to enhance content and process data — such as text, audio, code, and video — quickly, granting them greater autonomy in decision-making.
However, the use of AI in video games remains a highly controversial topic, as many in the industry are concerned about job losses, intellectual property disputes, and wage reductions.
According to the survey, 94% of developers expect AI to reduce overall development costs in the long term, despite the fact that about one in four developers finds it difficult to accurately measure the return on investment from AI applications. Moreover, the cost of integrating this technology remains high.
Around 63% of respondents expressed concerns about data ownership, given the legal ambiguity surrounding the licensing and use of AI-generated content and determining who owns it.
