Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is finally developing an official app tailored for iPad devices — a move that has long been anticipated by tablet users.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the app is currently undergoing internal testing by Meta employees, and if no major issues arise in the final development stages, it is expected to launch before the end of 2025.
While Meta introduced a Facebook app for iPad back in 2011, it has long ignored demands for an Instagram version, sparking criticism from users who viewed the absence as a sign of Meta’s lack of commitment to the iPad user base.
However, that stance appears to be shifting. In recent weeks, Meta released an official version of WhatsApp for iPad, signaling a strategic pivot to support more of its platforms on Apple’s tablet ecosystem.
A previous report by The Information confirmed that development of an iPad version of Instagram had officially begun, further supporting expectations of an imminent release.
As of now, Meta has not confirmed whether it plans to launch a Threads app for iPad as well. Still, the expected arrival of Instagram could pave the way for broader support across the company’s services.
Notably, Meta acquired Instagram in 2012 — just two years after the launch of the first iPad — yet the app has remained absent from the device for over a decade.
Some analysts believe the delay may have stemmed from technical or business disputes with Apple, particularly over privacy policies and ad revenue — long-standing points of friction between the two tech giants.
