Losing or having your iPhone stolen can quickly turn into a nightmare. However, the surprise is that switching off the device is no longer an effective way to hide its location. Thanks to Apple’s Find My Network, it is now possible to locate an iPhone even when it is completely powered off, by relying on nearby Apple devices to send its encrypted location to iCloud secretly.

This feature has been available since the iPhone 11 series and later—provided it was enabled beforehand. Whether the battery has died or the phone was intentionally powered off, there is still a chance to retrieve it.
According to “Thomas Guide,” here are the steps to locate the device:
1. Enable the "Find My" feature
To ensure that your iPhone can be tracked when powered off, open Settings, tap your profile, go to Find My, and enable the following options:
Find My iPhone
Find My network
Send Last Location
To confirm the phone is ready, press and hold the power button until the message “iPhone is Findable After Power Off” appears—meaning it can still be tracked even when shut down.
2. Use another Apple device to find your iPhone
If your device goes missing and you have another Apple product—like an iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch—open the Find My app and go to the Devices tab. Your iPhone’s location will appear even if it is powered off.
If you suspect it’s nearby, use the Play Sound option to make it emit a loud tone, even if it’s on silent mode.
3. What to do if you think the phone was stolen
If theft is suspected, activate Mark As Lost, which immediately locks the device with your passcode, disables Apple Pay, and displays a message with contact information.
You can also use Directions to navigate to the last known location of the device.
4. Track your phone from any web browser
If you do not have another Apple device, you can still track your iPhone by visiting:
iCloud.com/find
Log in using your Apple ID, open the Devices list, select your iPhone, and you’ll be able to view its location on the map, play a sound, mark it as lost, or erase its data remotely.
5. How to prevent thieves from disabling tracking
A common loophole is that a thief could open the Control Center from the lock screen to enable Airplane Mode or disable network connectivity. To prevent this:
Go to Settings, open Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode, and disable Control Center under “Allow Access When Locked.”
This is especially useful while traveling or in areas with high theft risk.
