A new survey reveals that teenagers prefer talking to chatbots rather than humans because they find them faster, more entertaining, and easier to interact with.

According to the UK newspaper The Independent, the survey, conducted by YouGov, involved 5,035 teenagers in England aged 11 to 18.
More than three-quarters of respondents reported spending most of their free time in front of screens, with nearly half (48%) spending it primarily in their bedrooms.
About four in ten participants said they had used AI for advice, support, or companionship and that they preferred talking to AI over humans.
The main reason given was speed, with 51% citing that AI responses are quicker, while 35% said interacting with AI is fun, and 19% found it easier than talking to a real person.
Around 9% used AI because they felt uncomfortable talking to an adult, 6% said they had no one else to talk to, and another 6% trusted AI more than humans.
Experts behind the survey cautioned that while AI is becoming an increasingly integrated part of society, it should not replace “rich human interaction.”
They added: “Although AI can provide support, it cannot replace the empathy and understanding that comes from real personal interactions.”
