Does Palm Oil Affect Cholesterol Levels?
Recent studies have shown that myristic and palmitic acids found in palm oil do not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Professor Oleg Medvedev—Head of the Department of Pharmacology, the first Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine at Moscow University, and founder of the Center for Healthy Nutrition Research—stated:اضافة اعلان
“Recent studies indicate that palmitic acid found in vegetable fats does not raise total cholesterol or LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. High cholesterol is primarily associated with the excessive intake of saturated fats—specifically when they make up more than 10% of the total diet. For example, butter contains around 60% saturated fat, while palm oil contains slightly less, around 50%.”

He added:
“It was previously believed that all saturated fatty acids have similar health effects. However, in the past two decades, multiple comparative studies have shown that the health impact varies significantly depending on the type of saturated fat—especially when it comes to biomarkers related to heart and vascular disease.”

The professor emphasized that most studies do not support the widespread belief that palmitic acid directly causes cardiovascular disease, particularly when cholesterol levels remain within the normal range.

He concluded:
“It’s true that palm oil can raise cholesterol levels, but not to the extent previously believed—and its effect is significantly less than that of butter, for example.”
