Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon said Sunday that she continues to lose opportunities because of her outspoken support for Palestinians, despite what she described as a growing shift in public opinion against U.S. support for Israel.

Speaking at the Venice Film Festival while promoting her latest film, "The Echo Chamber," she said some players in the film industry still avoid her because of her stance.
She said: "I think the perception has completely changed regarding the historical ties with Palestine and the relationship between Zionism and America and our policies... It was a huge revelation for people, the scale of the money the United States gives to Israel — no one realized that," in her words.
Recent American opinion polls have shown declining support for Israel and rising sympathy for Palestinians since the outbreak of the Gaza war in 2023.
Nevertheless, the 79-year-old actress said her support for the Palestinian cause still carries consequences for her career.
She told reporters: "I've recently been kept away from films because there are casting agencies that still tell people not to hire me... but that's the nature of the power structure. I think I'm welcomed by people, and certainly on the international stage."
