Spanish star Antonio Banderas has officially joined Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage to lead the fifth season of the hit crime drama series True Detective.

Banderas’s addition to the cast comes just days after Cage confirmed his participation in the series during New York Comic Con.
Rumors about Cage joining the project began circulating in 2025 before his involvement was officially confirmed. Although the precise plot details remain under wraps, entertainment reports have revealed the broad outlines of the new season, with production set to begin in 2027.

Nicolas Cage will play Detective Henry Logan, while Antonio Banderas will portray his partner, Detective Ray Garcia.
The series will move away from the snowy setting of the previous season and shift to Jamaica Bay in New York City.
The network has confirmed that director and writer Issa López will return as the season’s showrunner and creator, following the major success of the fourth season, titled True Detective: Night Country, starring Jodie Foster.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson starred in the first season, followed by Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams in the second.
