American actress Eva Marie Saint, one of Hollywood’s leading stars of the 1950s and an Academy Award winner, has died at the age of 102.
Saint died Tuesday, October 6, of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles, according to a press statement. She died surrounded by her family and loved ones. She is survived by her two children, Darrell and Laurette, as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Saint was born on July 4, 1924, in Newark, New Jersey. She studied at Bowling Green State University in Ohio before beginning her career in television and radio.
She made her professional debut in 1946 on the quiz program Campus Hoopla. She went on to work in television and radio for about a decade, while also appearing on stage, including in the Broadway production of The Trip to Bountiful in 1953.
The year 1954 marked a major turning point in her career when she appeared in Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront, portraying Edie Doyle in her first film role. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role, establishing herself as one of the era’s leading film stars.
In 1959, she further cemented her place in cinema with her appearance in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, alongside numerous other film and television roles throughout her career.
In her personal life, Eva Marie Saint married television director Jeffrey Hayden in 1951. Their marriage lasted more than six decades, until his death in 2016, and they had two sons.
In a previous interview, the American star spoke about her view of success, saying that patience, hard work and perseverance were among the most important factors that helped her in both her personal and professional life.
