According to official statistics issued by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), the total number of visitors to the archaeological site reached 3,986, including 3,723 foreign tourists, 139 Arab visitors, 45 residents, and 79 Jordanians.
The Chief Commissioner of the PDTRA, Dr. Fares Braizat, said that recording such a figure in a single day represents an important and positive indicator of the recovery of the tourism sector and the gradual return of tourism activity to Petra. He emphasized that the overwhelming majority of visitors being foreign tourists reflects the confidence of global tourism markets in the site as one of the world’s most important tourist destinations.
Dr. Braizat noted that the most prominent nationalities visiting Petra included Italian tourists (736 visitors), Russians (404), Spaniards (373), Americans (361), French (229), and British (212), in addition to visitors from India (146), Bulgaria (116), Indonesia (102), and Germany (100). This diversity reflects the recovery of global tourism programs and the re-inclusion of Petra within international travel itineraries.
He added that this improvement in visitor numbers came following the halt of the Israeli war on Gaza and as a result of integrated efforts that included intensive tourism promotion, continuous coordination with relevant stakeholders, improved service quality for visitors, and the maintenance of the highest standards of safety and security within the archaeological site.
Dr. Braizat also pointed to increasingly positive indicators of growth in family tourism, whether through foreign tour groups or Arab and Jordanian visitors. He affirmed that the Authority gives this tourism segment special attention and seeks to build on it in the future by developing services, improving facilities, and enhancing the overall tourism experience to meet families’ needs and encourage longer stays in Petra.
Expressing optimism about the coming period, Dr. Braizat expected visitor numbers to continue rising during January and February and through the end of the next tourist season, with the return of global tourism programs and increased demand from tour groups to visit Petra. He stressed the Authority’s commitment to continuing efforts to support the tourism sector and strengthen its role in the economic and social development of local communities in Petra.
