Two Jordanians receive UN award

Two Jordanians, Shaker Al-Khyami and Ziad Abu Shakran are set to posthumously receive the UN’s Dag Hammarskjold Medal for their peacekeeping efforts. Khyami and Abu Shakran served in the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, (UNAMID).اضافة اعلان

They will be among 129 military, police and civilian peacekeepers to posthumously receive the honor, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

In a statement, the UN said that Secretary General Antonio Guterres will lay a wreath to honor the more than 4,000 UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives since 1948 and will preside over a ceremony at which the Dag Hammarskjold Medal will be awarded posthumously to 129 military, police and civilian peacekeepers, who lost their life serving under the UN flag last year and in the first month of this year.
