AMMAN - The UN Tourism has announced the selection of North Azraq Village in Jordan as one of the Best Tourism Villages worldwide for 2025.
This recognition comes under the Global Tourism Villages Initiative, in its fifth edition, after the village met all the required criteria and standards set by the UN Tourism.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Jordan, this achievement crowns the national efforts to promote sustainable rural tourism and empower local communities. It also highlights North Azraq's unique natural, cultural, and tourist attractions that reflect Jordan's authentic identity and showcase the country's rich environmental and cultural diversity.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Emad Hijazeen, stated that this recognition is a national achievement that reflects Jordan's leadership in sustainable tourism.
He emphasized that it is the result of collaborative efforts between the ministry, the Azraq New Municipality, the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, the Jordan Tourism Board, the Department of Antiquities, and the local community.
The ministry added, in its statement, that “this achievement is a significant step towards achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Economic Modernization Vision in the tourism sector, by enhancing the competitiveness of the tourism sector and promoting Jordan as a global tourist destination.”
North Azraq Village was evaluated based on a set of criteria and requirements that reflect sustainable tourism development standards, and it met all the conditions to be recognized among the world's best tourism villages for 2025.
This recognition comes after other Jordanian villages, such as Al-Sila in Tafila (2023) and Umm Qais in Irbid (2022), were also named among the world's best tourism villages, reflecting Jordan's continued presence on the global tourism map and its commitment to sustainable tourism and comprehensive rural development.
North Azraq is located in northeastern Jordan, about 120 km from Amman and 90 km from Zarqa. The area is known for its basaltic landscape formed by ancient volcanoes and features historical sites such as Quseir 'Amra, Qasr Azraq, and Qasr Al-Harrana.
The village is also home to natural sites like the Azraq Reserve for the preservation of the Azraq Oasis and endangered fish species, and the Shaumari Reserve, for the breeding of rare animals, and Dahak Reserve, which includes rare geological formations.
The Northern Azraq is characterized by being the center of the Azraq Oasis, and includes the Al Azraq Castle, and the Azraq International Festival has been held since 1993, and contains the Azraq Eco-Tourism Development Project, which was established with a royal grant in 2008.
