The department’s Maritime Administration stated in a release that the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Arabian Sea are witnessing “significant military activity,” and recommended that ships steer clear of the area if possible.
The statement also emphasized that vessels flying the U.S. flag, owned by U.S. entities, or operated by U.S. crews should maintain a distance of 30 nautical miles from any U.S. military vessel to avoid being mistakenly perceived as a threat.
According to Reuters, some ships have received Iranian high-frequency broadcasts warning that “no ships are allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.”
