During a meeting held on Saturday at the council’s hall, Council Committee Chairman Mustafa Al-Awran confirmed the approval of funding for several social and developmental initiatives. These include support for the Tafilah Residential Care and Rehabilitation Center and the Inclusive Day Services Center affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development. The aim is to enhance care, rehabilitation, and training programs for people with disabilities, promote their integration into society, and improve the quality of services they receive.
Al-Awran emphasized that supporting people with disabilities reflects the council’s commitment to achieving comprehensive local development and enhancing their cognitive and physical capabilities. He noted that the allocated budget will also cover the construction, renovation, and purchase of housing units for underprivileged families in the districts of Tafilah, Al-Hasa, and Busayra, ensuring dignified and stable housing for these families.
The council also approved funding for the purchase of assistive medical devices for individuals with disabilities to enhance their independence and ease their daily lives.
For his part, Tariq Al-Rafou’, Director of Social Development in Tafilah, presented the key services offered by the center, including professional and social rehabilitation, as well as life skills programs, all delivered according to high-quality standards.
Al-Rafou’ pointed out several urgent needs of the center, such as the construction of outdoor play areas, TV lounges, game rooms, shaded areas, a physiotherapy hall, lighting for the access road to the center, and the provision of hospital beds, a transport bus, and an ambulance.
He also highlighted the services of the Tafilah Comprehensive Inclusive Day Services Center, which offers a wide range of programs for people with disabilities from various parts of the governorate. These services include training, rehabilitation, sports, arts, recreational and cultural activities, as well as physical, occupational, speech therapy, and family counseling—all provided by specialized staff.
During the meeting, the council decided to allocate funds to strengthen the governorate’s preparedness for the winter season. This includes the purchase of emergency relief supplies and funding maintenance work at both the care and rehabilitation center and the day services center, to improve the quality of services offered to beneficiaries.
