The MoU was signed on behalf of Jordan by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zina Toukan, and on behalf of Japan by the Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, Mr. Hideki Asari, in the presence of several embassy officials.
Minister Toukan expressed her gratitude to the Japanese government for its continued support of Jordan’s development and modernization efforts. She highlighted the importance of bilateral relations and the shared goal of enhancing economic and developmental cooperation.
Ambassador Asari affirmed his government’s commitment to providing continued financial and technical support programs for Jordan in various areas of mutual interest, contributing to the development of bilateral relations and supporting Jordan in strengthening border security. He noted that this initiative would enhance the operational capacities of personnel at border crossings and represents the fourth installment of support under the Economic and Social Development Program, reflecting the depth and continuity of the partnership between the two friendly countries.
He also praised Jordan’s steadfast role in promoting peace and stability in the region despite ongoing complex security challenges.
It is noteworthy that the Japanese government previously supported the first three phases of the project with a total value of 2 billion yen (approximately $18.4 million). Since 1999, Japan has provided Jordan with around $2.2 billion in support, including $656.12 million in grants and the remainder as soft loans, in addition to technical assistance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
