Energy Authority: Moving from the First to the Third Electricity Tariff Bracket Quadruples the Bill
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Ziad Al-Saaideh, affirmed that moving from the first electricity tariff bracket to the third results in a fourfold increase in the electricity bill. He explained that a consumer whose bill amounts to JOD 20 under the first tariff bracket would see it rise to JOD 80 upon moving to the third bracket.اضافة اعلان

Speaking during a parliamentary meeting held to discuss complaints related to high electricity bills during certain months, Al-Saaideh said that EMRC teams are ready to follow up on complaints through field visits to citizens’ homes to review consumption patterns and the electrical appliances in use.

He announced the Commission’s readiness to receive complaints from all Jordanians in cases where discrepancies appear in electricity bills, stressing that EMRC’s doors are open to receive any observations or complaints and to pursue them through to resolution.

Al-Saaideh revealed that 93% of electricity users in the Kingdom fall within the first tariff bracket, which covers consumption of up to 600 kilowatt-hours per month, noting that those who exceed this bracket are not among the categories targeted for government support.

He also pointed out that the electrical load increased by 1,700 megawatts, reaching 4,275 megawatts in December, compared with previous months when the load did not exceed 2,600 megawatts.

Al-Saaideh stressed that the Commission has recently achieved improvements in the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of electricity supply, along with a 3% reduction in technical losses—an indicator of lower costs—while also highlighting the rapid response in restoring power during emergency situations.
