Importing electric vehicles older than three years, including the year of customs clearance, is prohibited.
Vehicles classified as “salvage” or “junk” in their country of origin—those involved in major accidents such as fire, flooding, or severe damage—are banned from entering Jordan.
No vehicle will be allowed entry after this date unless it meets these requirements.
A Cabinet decision restructuring the vehicle sector officially entered into force early Sunday. The reform requires that all passenger vehicles—gasoline, hybrid, and electric—comply with Jordan’s adopted technical specifications, ensuring conformity with European, American, Gulf, or Saudi automotive standards.
The decision also prohibits the import of electric vehicles if more than three years have passed since their manufacture, including the year of customs clearance.
Additionally, it bans the import of vehicles labeled as “salvage” or “junk” in their country of origin—typically those that have suffered serious damage, such as fire, flooding, or total loss—in order to safeguard public safety, improve the quality of imported vehicles, and organize the domestic vehicle market.
The government stressed that no vehicle will be admitted into the Kingdom after this date unless it fully complies with these new standards.
These measures are part of a comprehensive structural reform plan for Jordan’s automotive sector, aiming to achieve balance, sustainability, and compliance with recognized safety and technical standards, according to the government.
