EU Intends to Impose Broad Sanctions on Russia
EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas told a German newspaper that the European Union intends to significantly expand the scope of sanctions imposed on Russia in the coming months.اضافة اعلان

She told the German daily Die Welt: "EU sanctions have already exacted a heavy toll on Russia, depriving the Russian war machine of more than one trillion euros ($1.16 trillion), and in the autumn I will submit the most extensive sanction lists since the war began."

She added: "Once adopted, these sanctions will immediately increase the total number of sanctioned Russian entities by a third. Pressure must continue to build until Moscow ends its war."

Kallas provided no further details regarding the timing or specifics of the new sanctions package.

In July, EU countries announced an agreement on a new package of sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, following weeks of negotiations, according to diplomats.

This package—the 21st imposed by the European Union since the Russian invasion in 2022—had been delayed due to numerous objections from member states regarding various proposed provisions.

European Council President António Costa stated: "Our 21st sanctions package targets the most impactful sectors: energy, financial services, cryptocurrencies, and trade."
