According to the chamber, 1,469 certificates of origin were issued in October, compared to 1,215 certificates last year, reflecting an increase in transaction numbers despite a drop in overall export value.
The decline was mainly due to reduced exports in key industrial sectors, particularly leather and apparel industries, affected by lower demand in U.S. markets following the recent tariff decision. Exports of packaging, paper, and cardboard fell by 43%, while plastic and rubber industries dropped by 27%.
Conversely, some sectors experienced significant growth:
Construction materials exports increased about sevenfold.
Medical supplies and therapeutic products rose by 49%.
Chemical and cosmetic products grew by 37%, reflecting sectoral diversification within the governorate.
The total exports of the chamber for the first ten months of 2025 reached $948.9 million, compared to $940.1 million during the same period last year, showing a 1% increase, indicating the resilience and adaptability of Irbid’s industrial sector to international economic changes.
Geographically, exports were mainly directed to:
United States: over 50% of total exports.
European countries: 10.7%.
Arab countries: 8.4%.
The Hassan Industrial City accounted for 95.6% of the governorate’s exports, followed by Cyber City with 2.7%, highlighting these two zones as key industrial hubs supporting local and foreign investment, the national economy, and job creation.
Hani Abu Hassan, President of the Irbid Chamber of Industry, stated that the monthly decline was largely due to drops in the leather, apparel, and packaging sectors. He added that the chamber is preparing a specialized analytical study to assess the impact of the recent U.S. tariff decision on the local leather and apparel industry.
He emphasized that Irbid’s industrial sector remains a cornerstone of the national economy, and the chamber continues to monitor export performance, working with government bodies and partner institutions to open new markets and diversify exports, enhancing Jordanian product competitiveness and sustainable industrial growth.
