According to a statement from the chamber on Sunday, the meeting, attended by Amman Chamber board member Lattab Al-Banna, reviewed the current trade exchange between the two countries and ways to increase trade volumes by establishing direct communication channels between the business communities in Amman and Vienna. They also discussed investment opportunities in the technology, service, and logistics sectors, and emphasized the importance of increasing the participation of Jordanian companies in specialized trade fairs held annually in Vienna, which would help them access the European market.
Al-Khatib highlighted Jordan’s strategic location, making it an important hub for trade operations toward the Gulf countries, Iraq, and regional markets. He emphasized that the chamber aims to build sustainable institutional relationships with its European counterparts through cooperation programs including training, experience exchange, and organizing business delegations, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Jordan’s commercial sector.
Kriz-Zvitkovich noted that Jordan is an active economic partner in the Middle East, and that its market is characterized by stability and flexibility, making it an attractive destination for Austrian investors. She confirmed her readiness to expand cooperation with the Amman Chamber of Commerce and facilitate communication between Jordanian and Austrian companies, pointing to broad opportunities to increase trade exchange and boost joint investments.
The two sides also discussed major challenges hindering trade activity between the countries, including the lack of direct flights between Amman and Vienna and limited air and sea shipping options, which affect supply costs and shipping times. They agreed to study practical solutions to these challenges by opening communication channels with airlines and relevant government authorities, facilitating the movement of businessmen and goods between the two countries.
It was agreed to organize an Austrian business delegation to visit Jordan soon for bilateral meetings, and to prepare for signing a memorandum of understanding between the Amman and Vienna Chambers of Commerce during the visit, aimed at enhancing institutional cooperation, exchanging economic information, implementing joint training programs, and establishing a communication channel to assist companies in both countries in pursuing investment and export opportunities.
