Allan told the Jordan News Agency (PETRA) that the sector anticipates a good Ramadan season, particularly during Eid al-Fitr, with stable price levels that meet the needs of various consumer segments. He noted that market activity has been moderate since the beginning of the year.
He highlighted that the clearance time for goods has been reduced from 12 to 6 days due to simplified procedures by the Customs Department at major customs centers, especially in Aqaba, Amman, and the cargo airport. He also expressed appreciation for the visits conducted by the Director-General of Customs to these centers ahead of peak holiday seasons and his follow-up on feedback from the commercial sector, which contributes to facilitating the smooth flow of goods into the local market.
Allan added that the Union is monitoring the first main season following the decision to impose a sales tax on postal parcels, expressing hope that it will have a positive impact on the sector.
The clothing, footwear, and fabrics sector, the largest commercial sector in the Kingdom, includes around 11,000 establishments across all governorates, employing 63,000 Jordanian workers, while 180 clothing and footwear brands operate and invest in the local market.
