Members of the United Nations Security Council called on Yemeni and regional parties to engage constructively in UN efforts to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement to the crisis in Yemen, while urging an end to the military escalation.

In a joint press statement, the council urged the parties to halt reciprocal military operations and return to the UN-sponsored negotiation process, stressing that a political solution is the only way to end the conflict and achieve stability in the country.
Council members condemned the ongoing Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, as well as the military escalation near the Bab al-Mandab Strait. They expressed concern over the impact of developments on international maritime security, trade flows, and global energy supplies.
The position comes after a series of emergency Security Council sessions held during September to discuss the deteriorating situation in Yemen and rising threats in the vital waterways surrounding the country, amid international warnings that the confrontation could expand and have broader regional repercussions.
The council reaffirmed its support for UN efforts to de-escalate tensions and called on all parties to avoid steps that could undermine prospects for de-escalation and the resumption of the political process.
