The school, located in Minab, was hit on Saturday during the initial wave of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Monday that American forces "would not have intentionally targeted a school," while Israel noted it is conducting an investigation into the incident.
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said in a statement: "The Committee is deeply concerned by reports of strikes on civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, which have resulted in injuries to children, psychological trauma, and the loss of many children's lives." The Committee added that children must be protected from the repercussions of war.
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child consists of 18 independent experts and is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which protects children's right to education as well as their protection from violence.
On Tuesday, the UN Human Rights Office urged those it described as "the parties behind the deadly attack on a girls' school in Iran" to investigate the incident and provide information, without holding any specific party responsible.
