"AI can be very dangerous, and we have to be very careful in dealing with it," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday. His comments came shortly after a post on his platform, Truth Social, in which he accused Western media outlets—without providing evidence—of "closely coordinating" with Iran to spread AI-generated "fake news."

These remarks come amid renewed tension between the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and broadcasters following Trump’s criticism of media coverage regarding the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened on Saturday to revoke the licenses of broadcasting stations that do not "correct their course" in their coverage.

Trump has frequently accused the media of lying when reporting news he perceives as critical of him, and has previously called for revoking the licenses of broadcasters he describes as unfair.

On Sunday, Trump cited three instances where he claimed Iran used AI to mislead public opinion. Writing on Truth Social, he stated that Iran showcased non-existent "suicide drone boats." He added that Iran used AI to falsely depict a successful attack on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, asserting that media outlets promoting the story should be charged with treason.

While Iranian state media had indeed reported that the military targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln, the news was not widely reported by Western media outlets.

Trump also claimed that images showing "250,000" Iranians in a march supporting the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, were "entirely AI-generated," adding that the rally "never happened."

While several pro-government demonstrations have taken place in Iran since the outbreak of the war, a quick search found no Western reports citing the 250,000 figure. Numerous media organizations have published news photos showing crowds in Tehran following Khamenei’s selection as Supreme Leader.

Trump did not specify which particular Iranian news reports he was referencing.
