AMMAN— The Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations, Mahmoud Daifallah Hmoud stressed that the UNRWA’s issue is considered among Jordan’s priorities, not only for hosting about 42 percent but because the Palestinian cause was and will remain the first concern of the Arab conscience, according to Al-Ghad news.اضافة اعلان

During the UNRWA’s Pledging Conference, which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on Friday, Hmoud said that the basis for dealing with the UNRWA’s issue must be put within our Arab, Islamic and human principles.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini attended the conference.

Hmoud added Jordan will maintain its efforts to mobilize the international political and financial support to support the UNRWA and enable it to continue carrying out its duties towards more than 5 million Palestinian refugees in accordance with its UN mandate.

According to Hmoud, Jordan confirms that the Palestinian refugees’ cause is one of the final status issues to be resolved on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution No.194 and the Arab Peace Initiative, in a manner that guarantees the refugees' right of return and compensation.

“Preserving UNRWA means preserving the right of Palestinian refugees to live in dignity and the right of more than 500,000 children to go to school. It is also an assertion that the international community did not and will not forget their cause  until they have gained their legitimate rights as stipulated by the international law and the UN general assembly’s resolution No194 of the right of return and compensation,” Hmoud added.
