Transport Minister Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin met at his office with Mahmoud Al-Ma’ayta, head of the Mechanics and Transport Workers Union, in the presence of the Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Eng. Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, to discuss drivers’ working conditions and measures to improve the transport sector environment, ensuring sector sustainability and a decent livelihood for workers.

During the meeting, Al-Qatamin listened to the challenges facing drivers, particularly those in category six, and the associated professional and living burdens that require practical, participatory solutions.
The minister emphasized the need to move forward with integrating drivers into the social security system according to their income levels, enhancing social protection for this essential group within the public transport system.
He also stressed the importance of including public transport drivers, especially yellow taxi operators, in social security coverage, highlighting its direct impact on improving working conditions and ensuring stability for workers in this vital sector.
The discussions also focused on empowering drivers, developing work mechanisms, and improving the services provided to them, including facilitating procedures, promoting training opportunities, and providing professional support to achieve a more efficient and high-quality transport system.
In conclusion, Al-Qatamin affirmed that the ministry continues to work with all partners to address challenges and create a supportive environment for drivers and transport workers, strengthening the sector’s role in serving citizens and the national economy.
