Senator Rifai urges universities to open doors to political parties

AMMAN — On Monday, September 25, Senator Samir Al-Rifai called on Universities to open their doors to political parties, and on students to join and form political party societies in universities, calling for a more politically inclined studentship. This was during the closing conference of the project "Empowering Civil Society Institutions to Enhance Social Cohesion," implemented by the Life-Rased Center in cooperation with the Indicators Center, in Al-Bayt University in Mafraq Governorate. اضافة اعلان



Osama Nasir, the president of Al-Bayt University, considered universities one of the institutions that pave the way for students to engage in public affairs, urging them and providing them with a suitable environment to embark on a path of public work and interaction. He explained that the university has both an academic and political role, and both roles can coexist without one overshadowing the other.

Civic responsibilityRifai also addressed Jordanian university presidents, emphasizing the importance of opening all doors to political parties and youth for political and party work. He assured that political parties are safe and will lead the upcoming stages of Jordan’s progress, based on the laws and regulations established by the Jordanian government.



Rifai stressed the responsibility on political parties to provide comprehensive and implementable programs. He advised young people that their party alignment should be based on the party's ideology and programs rather than other criteria.

Foreign views on Jordan’s partiesThe event was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Jordan, Espen Lindbaek, Deputy Yazan Shdeifat, and Deputy Ismail Al-Mashaqba, with the participation of more than 150 students from various universities.

Lindbaek highlighted that neglecting the role of women and youth in society would weaken our countries' performance. He stressed the importance of involving them in discussions about the environment, climate change, and their role in promoting peace and social cohesion.

Lindbaek expressed his pleasure at the project's achievements, especially its alignment with Jordan's political reform process. He looked forward to learning about the project's initiatives and was interested in hearing young people's perspectives on the challenges we all face.
