AMMAN — The Senate on Tuesday returned the political parties draft law to the Lower House, rejecting some amendments and introducing others to key articles after it was passed by MPs last week, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

Senators shot down an amendment by MPs to reduce the proportion of youth (those aged 18–35) and women required in a political party from the original 20 percent to 10 percent.

The Senate also lowered the requirement for quorum at political party conferences from “one third” to “a majority”.

Additionally, Senators rejected the Lower House’s decision to extend the deadline for existing parties to rectify their legal status with the new legislation to 18 months, instead of one year as proposed by the government in the draft law’s original text.
