AMMAN — Preserving the general appearance of the city is a joint responsibility between Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) workers, street sweepers, and the public, Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh said Tuesday, asking citizens not to litter, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

His remarks came during the launch of the “Amman Baytna” (or “Amman is our Home”) campaign at Culture Street, in Shmeisani, organized by the GAM for the 12th year in a row in cooperation with Zain Jordan.

Shawarbeh stressed that this initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining the city’s cleanliness through an initiative to distribute environmentally friendly paper bags to vehicles, designated for waste disposal.

The campaign, which will target various areas, aims to reduce the burden on street sweepers in collecting waste from main streets and traffic intersections. An aggravating factor is the prevalence of littering from vehicles; the campaign urges drivers to refrain from throwing refuse from their vehicles, especially in underpasses or on highways.

On Tuesday morning, municipal workers began distributing waste bags to vehicles and public buses along main roads, major intersections, and at traffic lights. People expressed their graduate to the GAM for this gesture that would help enhance the aesthetic appearance of the city and preserve cleanliness, Petra reported.

The 100,000 waste disposal bags are designed to be hung inside vehicles and are printed with phrases that urge people to protect the environment and reduce the problem of waste carelessly discarded from cars.
