Jordan has welcomed Britain's decision to ban trade in products from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, along with measures targeting services that finance or facilitate settlement expansion.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Majali called the British decision an important step reflecting London's commitment to international law, citing Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of the territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem. Majali also pointed to the International Court of Justice advisory opinion on the illegality of the occupation and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation in the West Bank.
The ministry separately welcomed a joint statement by twelve governments announcing their intention to take national measures and support European measures restricting trade in settlement products. The signatories are Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Majali also welcomed the British foreign secretary's remarks in the Commons, in which he affirmed a commitment to the two-state solution and to Palestinian self-determination, condemned statements by Israeli ministers, and said that what is happening in parts of the West Bank amounts to ethnic cleansing.
Majali urged other governments to take comparable steps that translate stated commitments into practical measures, and restated Jordan's position in support of ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
