Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan has directed the expansion of Jordan's free school transport project in the southern Badia regions to include 3,500 additional male and female students, effective from the start of the second semester.

The expansion will bring the total number of students benefiting from the scheme in the southern Badia regions to 12,500, up from 9,000. Around 900 teachers are also covered under the project.
The decision follows the government's evaluation of the first phase, which launched in southern Badia schools at the start of the current academic year. According to the government, the project has helped address transportation difficulties faced by many students and eased the financial burden on their families by providing fully integrated, cost-free transport.
The project was implemented in partnership with the private sector. Its first phase covers 61 government schools in the southern desert, served by a fleet of 120 buses.
In the next phase, the government plans to launch a smart application for the free transport scheme. The app will allow parents to track their children's journeys to and from school and receive arrival notifications. It will be linked to electronic tracking systems and cameras installed on the buses.
The government also intends to extend the free school transport model beyond the south, with plans to roll it out to areas in central and northern Jordan at a later stage.
