The ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Fawwad Al-Majali, said Jordan categorically rejects and strongly condemns the settlers' repeated storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the provocative conduct that accompanies such raids. He described the incursions as a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and as an unacceptable act of incitement aimed at imposing new realities at the site - including attempts to effect its temporal and spatial partition. Al-Majali stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its holy sites.
Al-Majali warned of the repercussions and consequences of the continued violations, provocations and incendiary statements, and called on the international community to take a firm position compelling Israel, as the occupying power, to halt all its irresponsible practices and ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, to end unlawful measures in the occupied West Bank, and to cease incitement against the Palestinian people.
Al-Majali reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety - covering an area of 144 dunams - is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. He said the Jerusalem Awqaf Administration and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Directorate, which operates under Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, is the sole legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction over the administration of all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the regulation of access to it.
