AMMAN – Zeina Toukan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, met with Canadian Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen on Thursday during his visit to Jordan to discuss the two countries' existing development cooperation program supporting the Middle East, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

According to a statement, Toukan thanked the Canadian government for its assistance in prioritizing Jordan's development goals. This assistance covers various sectors, including vocational and technical education, primary education, economic growth, women's empowerment, and reducing the burden of hosting Syrian refugees. She stressed the importance of this assistance in fulfilling various developmental priorities along with the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV).

The continuation of international support for Jordan's response plan to the Syrian crisis is critical for aiding the government in providing essential services to refugees and host communities.

During the conference, plans were finalized to announce a package of developmental projects to be carried out by various institutions. These projects, totaling 95 million Canadian dollars (about JD50 million), are intended to assist developmental priorities between 2024 and 2025. Education, the environment, energy, digitalization, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment for women are among the topics addressed. Agreements for these new projects are scheduled to be signed by the end of March.

New initiatives receiving Canadian financing include

  1. The Aqaba Marine Reserve (AMR).
  2. Teacher Training Program.
  3. Support for strategic plans in education.
  4. Transition into vocational and technical education.
  5. Promoting sustainable energy and economic development.
