MADRID, Spain — On the sidelines of the recently concluded FITUR, the leading international tourism trade fair, Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Managing Director Ramzi Maaytah held a high-level meeting with UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nowais. The meeting took place at the premises of Spain’s Institución Ferial de Madrid (IFEMA), the fair’s organizer.اضافة اعلان

Maaytah was joined at the meeting by Raghad Al Saqqa, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Spain.

Secretary-General Al Nowais was accompanied by senior members of the UN Tourism delegation, including Beka Jakeli, Director of External Relations and Institutional Affairs; Natalia Bayona, Executive Director; and Mirhad Abdel Fattah, Senior Coordinator for the Middle East.

During the meeting, JTB Managing Director showcased Jordan’s diverse tourism offerings, highlighting the country’s rich cultural, natural, faith-based, and adventure tourism assets. He also underscored Jordan’s strong commitment to sustainable and inclusive tourism development.

Discussions focused on key areas for enhancing cooperation between Jordan and UN Tourism. These included capacity building, heritage protection, tourism data development and site management.

In his remarks, Maaytah stated, “Jordan takes pride in the heritage and culture it presents to visitors,” stressing that protecting and promoting these assets “remains one of our top priorities.”

Both sides emphasized the critical importance of continued collaboration to advance sustainable tourism practices, safeguard cultural and natural heritage, and support human capital development across the sector.

For her part, UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nowais commended Jordan’s active engagement with UN Tourism and its steadfast commitment to shared priorities that align with global tourism development objectives.

The Secretary-General further expressed UN Tourism's keenness to strengthen and continue its productive cooperation with Jordan in the coming period.

Both parties look forward to ongoing dialogue and joint initiatives that address areas of shared strategic interest for the future of the tourism sector.
