Jordan's Cabinet has approved a set of measures to regulate and reduce fuel consumption by government vehicles and machinery, using electronic data-link technology and RFID-based automated fuelling.

The move is part of a broader government drive toward digital transformation and data-driven oversight. Officials said the aim is to make fuel dispensing more transparent, trackable and accountable, limiting waste, improving fleet management efficiency, and protecting public funds.
Under the new measures, users of government vehicles will be required to log all fuelling operations electronically and automatically, without manual intervention.
The expansion of the technology follows a pilot that officials said had already demonstrated its effectiveness, having been applied to vehicles belonging to a number of government bodies.
The system works by linking each fuelling transaction electronically to the specific government vehicle being filled, automatically recording the quantity dispensed and related data without any manual adjustment of figures or amounts. This reduces reliance on paper-based procedures.
Beyond logging individual transactions, the technology can also link fuel consumption data to a vehicle's actual movement and use, enabling comparison of fuel dispensed against real usage and allowing abnormal or unjustified consumption to be detected more quickly and accurately.
The system is to be rolled out to all ministries, official departments, public institutions and authorities, municipalities, joint services councils, the Greater Amman Municipality, and wholly government-owned companies - standardizing fuel control across the public sector and strengthening oversight.
